(HealthDay News) — While women may be more focused on bone health, men are also at risk for osteoporosis, a disease characterized by brittle bones and bone loss.
The American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons explains these risk factors for osteoporosis in men:
- Being over age 75.
- Having a low body-mass index.
- Having lost more than 5 percent of total body weight in the last four years.
- Being a current smoker.
- Living a sedentary lifestyle.
- Having a male family member with osteoporosis.
