(HealthDay News) — When adults respond quickly and consistently to bullying behavior, they send a message that it is not acceptable, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Service says.
Parents and school staff can help prevent bullying by talking about it, building a safe school environment and creating a community-wide bullying prevention strategy, the agency says.
Here are the agency’s suggestions:
- Talk about what bullying is and how to stand up to it safely.
- Keep the lines of communication open.
- Encourage kids to do what they love.
- Model how to treat others.
