The American Academy of Family Physicians says these signs indicate true hunger:

  • A growling, rumbling, gnawing or hunger pang sensation in your stomach.
  • Low energy, or feeling weak.
  • Difficulty concentrating.
  • A mild headache.
  • Irritability.
