(HealthDay News) — Iron is an essential mineral that helps your body process proteins and produce red blood cells.
The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics says:
- Iron is crucial for a healthy immune system and brain development.
- It’s found in fish, chicken and lean meats, leafy greens, fruit, legumes and iron-fortified foods.
- Signs of iron deficiency include: frequent illness, unexplained fatigue, headaches, shortness of breath or dizziness.
